My June 2013 BDJ Box Unboxing!

Hey everyone :) So here we are again with an unboxing.. I can never get enough of these things, I swear! It's like.. When you're feeling down, you can pretend that you have a secret admirer who sends you makeup. WHOA! Or when you're particularly loopy, you can pretend that it's Santa, the Easter Bunny, your fairy godmother, anyone! It's just fun. It's like getting a letter!

Yesterday I got the June 2013 BDJ Box. Right outside the entire box is this Kinerase booklet. The short version: Kinetin is produced by plants and it prevents drying and withering. Scientists have found out that Kinetin is naturally-occurring in human cell extracts and DNA so if a=b, and b=c, then Kinetin extract will prevent YOUR SKIN from drying and withering. Basically, it's like the fountain of youth.

Complete Skincare Line

As I've theorized before, I think that parched skin is better served by anti-aging than hydrating products. I assumed that this must be a Kinerase box, given BDJ's flair for spotlighting one brand.

Theme of the month is The Science of Beauty. Reading the curation card I quickly gather that it's not a Kinerase box but rather, an assortment of scientifically backed-up beauty products.

This month's box is NOT a Kinerase box. Here's what the box looks like as soon as I lift the cover.

June 2013 BDJ Box: Impressions

I'm so sad to see the L'Oreal Fall Repair Shampoo and Conditioner especially since it was sampled off three months ago, just last March. Physiogel is sort of okay since it was sampled off last November, though I am still uncomfy as it is forever available and Physiogel doesn't really make new releases. I am excited about pretty much everything else, so read on to find out what I think. I have swatches!

June 2013 BDJ Box

What I'm Most Excited About:

Avon Ultra Moisture Rich Vitaluscious Lipstick in O400 Reviving Red, Php 299 / 3.6g

OOH LALA! This is probably the first lipstick I got from BDJ that I am pulling my hair on out of excitement. I filled out a very conservative Beauty Profile and I've been sad about getting a violet lipstick (Flormar,) pink-violet gloss (L'Oreal Shine Caresse in Milady,) a similarly pink-violet lipstick (Maybelline Color Sensational Lasting Lipstick in Make Me Pink) and a cool coral lipstick (Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Cruise Collection.) I get that pink suits the conservative taste but I veer away from any cool or blue tones, which they all had. Anything slightly blue doesn't look well on me. It turns my lips kinda purply, kinda wormy.

Reviving Red looks like basic Crayola Red on the sticker so I was a little surprised to find the bullet and the swatch leaning a little more on the cherry side. Check out my swatch:

Skin Swatch: Avon UMR Vitaluscious in Reviving Red in 1-2-3 coats

This will be my first Avon lipstick and while I'm not particularly impressed with the reviews I've seen online. I was apprehensive about how washed out the colors are but as Liz of Project Vanity has pointed out to me via Twitter, Avon UMR Vitaluscious is marketed to be everyday-friendly.

I don't have anything of this hue in my collection thus far and despite my apprehensions, I am weirdly excited about trying it out for myself. I know a lot of girls are dying to get their hands on Avon products and I'd like to see what all the hype is about :)

P.S. forgive the dents on my wrist. I just got back from the office and these are from leaning over the glass cover on my desk.

Revlon Photoready Kajal Intense Eyeliner + Brightener in 002 Blue Nile, Php 525 / 2.4g

I love eyeliners! A lot of girls feel like they can just do their brows or just their lips and go out the door; I'm an eyeliner kinda gal. My sparse lashes and black circles give me major insecurities but a gorgeous dash of eyeliner washes out the circles and gives the illusion of thicker lashes. I also think it plays up the shape of my eyes :)

Skin Swatch: Revlon Photoready Kajal Intense: Highlighter (L) and Eyeliner in Blue Nile (R)

I am completely into colored eyeliner. The brightener is a plus although I'm not too sold on white/silver waterliners. I prefer something nude or peach as it looks more natural and less DISCO. As you can see, it's so stark and contrasts heavily against my warm skin tone. I don't find the blue pigmented enough but I am still willing to check how it looks against my eyes.

Kinerase Gentle Daily Cleanser, Php 2800 / 200ml. 5ml sample.

I love trying out new cleansers! Also, all that hyping up from the pamphlet really got me into Kinerase. I was even a little disappointed at seeing at seeing the L'Oreal goodies as I was really hoping for a complete Kinerase line trial. Nonetheless, cleansers are always a good starting point.

Kinerase Cream, Php 4950 / 40g. 5g sample.

The curation card says I was supposed to get the C6 Peptide Intensive Treatment, Php 5000 / 40g but the sample I got is clearly labelled the cream. I am THANKFUL for getting the cream (for dry skin) instead of the lotion (for oily skin.) Subscription mismatches are traumatic!

I am up for a moisturizer trial but I was honestly much more digging the Intensive Treatment a.k.a. Serum as it is usually the most hydrating option a line can offer. Oh well, towel.

L'Oreal Paris Fall Repair 3x Hair Tonic, Php 259 / 90ml

This is teetering on the Other Stuff in Here category. While I appreciate a good hair treatment, I can never find the time to maintain a healthy hair routine. My current MO is: shampoo everyday, with a rest day twice a month, and a generous conditioning once a week. I want to do a treatment every week but I never have the time. I usually break out my cuticle coats or serums on bad hair days but not really frequently enough. I just hope I have the patience to use this because it seems nice.

Other Stuff in Here:

Physiogel Hypo-Allergenic Intensive Cream, Php 574.50 / 50ml

This is really useful for irritated skin that needs moisturization. I have this weird thingy on my leg that keeps acting up and I've been using my Physiogel sample to soothe it, but THIS IS A REPEAT! Why must you do this? I already know the product is good; I am willing to buy it from the stores. I love that I'm getting one for free but can't we try something new?

L'Oreal Paris Fall Repair 3x Hair Shampoo, Php 110 / 180ml. 70ml sample.

Again, a repeat. This time, it's smaller.

L'Oreal Paris Fall Repair 3x Hair Conditioner, Php 110 / 180ml. 70ml sample.

Another repeat. I didn't think this combo was really all that. I still had hair fall and it wasn't super fragrant, like how I like my shampoos to be. Sigh.

RECAP:

June 2013 BDJ Box: Curation Card

June 2013 BDJ Box: Curation Card

I'm loving that BDJ is taking the inclusion of makeup more seriously. They're the subscription service that has given me the most pieces of makeup. I also like the emerging preference for premium-sized samples over sachets and tiny bottles. Little tubes and sachets last only 5-10 days but my skin completely acclimates by day 14. These samples only let me know the potential, but not the actual performance of a product and that really puts me in the dark about where exactly a product can take me. Premium samples are more useful for the serious buyer, like me!

However, I'm so, so despairing over the three repeat samples :( It feels like it was just put there to cover up the fact that the new samples are the teensy, tiny ones. I'm stoked about the new brand, but I wish they didn't put in repeats along with it. I'm a little stunned about this box. The repeats are really throwing me off the absolute THRILL of the new brand + makeup I got. I don't know how to feel about this, I'll just go off and drown my sorrows in some warm milk.

Box Value: Php 1775.50 for a Php 590 subscription. They just about make it on their "x3 or Php 1770" promise. At least they made it worth it despite the repeats.
