Had to Pass: MOX Botanicals Lip Butter in Coconut Almondine

I’m pretty much a walking review bin. I try out everything, even things that don’t flatter nor interest me. Granted, I do push those undesirables as far back into my review pile as possible, but I do attempt to work on some sort of FIFO (First In, First Out) ethos. I still want to have a review on as many items as possible and I do want to hit pan even on things I don't rate a 5.

With this in mind, I decided to start my Had to Pass label. I can't possibly review everything that comes my way and I will have to have some sort of standard. Had to Pass is my label for products that I can't use in a reasonable length of time due to specific/unwanted reactions or personal preference. Please don't take my experience for or against the product as I am only sharing why I am unable to post a full review.

I received MOX Botanicals Lip Butter in my April Glamourbox. I was already waaaay apprehensive when I wrote my impressions on the unboxing post but I'm never really one to completely turn back from a product, especially a sample received from a subscription box. Even my Garnier samples are still sitting here, pushed to the back of the bin but waiting to be used. And I do love lip anythings. Lip balms were the first cosmetics I ever had and they heal my chapped lips!

However, my deep love for balms, (or butter, in this case) is not enough to overcome my hatred for coconuts. I open the jar and the smell of fresh coconut oil assaults my nose to the first degree. Oh, don't be fooled by fresh. Don't trust bottled oils. Coconuts grow natively in the Philippines and I once asked our helper to press some for me to put into my hair. It wasn't too bad but it was very overpowering and if you don't like it, you have no choice but to breathe it in, guuurl.

The overload of coconut oil, with hints of grease, coconut milk and nutty almond adds to the nasty factor. There's just something completely disgusting about the smell of oil and milk! I think 'cause our olfactory senses are so linked to our gustatory senses that I VOM at the imagined taste of milk and oil.

I used a lip brush to swipe it on my lips, not wanting the smell to stick to my fingers. On contact, I GAG for realsies. I'm not being a drama queen here, I do actually gag on instinct at the horrible, horrible wax that has coated my lips.

Despite hating myself, I soldier on and leave the product on for the rest of the night. In all fairness, it did work well as an overnight balm. However, this is an inconclusive impression as I couldn't really observe it for any reasonable length of time. I cannot put this on my lips ever, ever again! Granted, some people find coconuts exotic and yummy but I hate it with such a passion.

So, with all due respect, I'm officially passing on MOX Botanicals Lip Butter in Coconut Almondine. Not because it's useless, but because I have a personal vendetta against coconut flavors. If you're into that sort of thing, please, have at it.
