Unboxing: My September 2014 BDJ Box!

Hi everyone! Guess what came in the mail todayyyyy?

September 2014 BDJ Box: Freshly Opened!

I'd been feeling a bit anxious because BDJ normally delivers on the 15th (even though their promise is up to the last week of the month) but there were enough warnings on their Facebook page.

This month's theme is Beauty Innovations, which sounds to me like a great answer to my previous gripes. There's just a tired feeling in receiving "tried and tested" items as subscription box samples, don't you think?

September 2014 BDJ Box: Curation Card

For the second consecutive month, we receive our samples in the huge box normally reserved for Elite Boxes. It's pretty heavy and I was so concerned that the items would break free but everything looks intact and neat.

September 2014 BDJ Box: Impressions

Here's What's Inside (Sorted by Favorites:)

FS Gel Liner in Brown, Php 299 / 5g.

This item is listed as 5ml on the curation card, with a net weight of 4g printed on the box and 5g printed on the product.

I'm pretty excited about getting this because I don't have gel pot liner. I'm a little disappointed that it's brown but I can still make it work. I think I've tried the black version of this from a friend, but I'm not super sure. If my memory serves me right, it was very creamy and super easy to apply but I never got to notice if it smudged or not.

I'm anxious because it's FS and a lot of people look down on it. I hope I can prove that judgment wrong and score a good drugstore find with this. Trying it tonight :D

FS Single Eye Shadow in Potter Clay, Php 150 / 4g.

With the bad rep in mind, I'm still excited over this eye shadow because I've been meaning to try a deep red eye. It's very hard to pull off but I've seen some great looks from Carina (example here, but that's liner) sooo I kinda wanna copycat and see if I can pull it off :)

It's just so scary because so many people say red brings out your dark circles uhuhuhu.

Pond's Dewy Rose Gel, Php 150 / 10g x 2.

I was pretty excited about this moisturizing gel because it's in a new formulation. I didn't realize how watery it would be when I opened it. The contents pooled at the cap and sides but I was able to quickly move it back to the bottom with less than five light taps.

I was hoping for a thicker gel, close to Celeteque's Collagen Gel or ZA's Collagen Cream.

Dove Intense Repair Daily Hair Vitamin, Php 75 / 6ml x 6 pack x 2 packs.

I think Dove released a shampoo, conditioner, mask and treatment capsules for their Intense Repair line. I don't think this is super new, but I do love these futuristic capsules and I think they're convenient in doling out a measured dose.

Cream Silk Daily Treatment Conditioner in Dry Rescue and Damage Control, Php 134 / 180ml ea.

I was a little nervous receiving two conditioners because my ratio of use for shampoo : conditioner is about 7 : 1. I never finish shampoo-conditioner sets and I think I have about 1L worth of leftover conditioner lined up in my shower.

Still, I do wonder if there's any truth to the treatment bit and if so, it would be pretty convenient :)

Godiva LicoWhite Whitening Facial Wash, Php 85 / 50ml, 6ml x 4 sachets provided, and Facial Toner, Php 60 / 60ml.

I'm getting pretty sick of Godiva samples now :/ I don't think they're super interesting and I haven't even used any of my other Godiva samples. I appreciate that it's a kit and that should make it easier to use. I think I have Godiva moisturizers somewhere in here...

Other Stuff in Here:

Jergens Daily Moisture, Php 153 / 200ml and Ultra Healing, Php 88 / 100ml.

Not a big Jergens fan, but I would like to see what all the fuss is all about. I hope it's reliably moisturizing.

Beach Hut Clear Spray Sunblock SPF 36, Php 390 / 180ml.

Nooooo, I have another spray that I'm trying to get rid of, hahaha! I probably like this better than the aerosol spray as those are usually creamy (this is full-on liquid.) But still. Kinda off with the timing as it's monsoon season.

  • PAC Free Make Over worth Php 1500 at any PAC counter (in group photo only)

I have a few of these I don't get to use. It's nice to avail when you're going out and want to look extra made up but I don't normally remember to take these GCs out :))

RECAP:

September 2014 BDJ Box: Curation Card

Box Value: Php 1858 or 3.2x the Php 580 subscription fee (considering only full size samples,) or Php 1898 (considering all samples)

This box is a head to toe offering with two pieces of makuep. There's hair, face and body care in here which makes it really diverse! I love that BDJ tries to listen to their consumers and they work really hard to provide what we want. I think it's fantastic that the samples are super-sized, and sachet samples come in multiples so that people can get a real trial out of it.

However, and I'm sure you can read it somewhat, I feel a bit strained by this box. Godiva is getting so tired while Cream Silk, Jergens, Pond's and Dove aren't exactly exciting brands to try. They may have innovations, but that's always very minimal and I'm very indifferent with hair care, body care and drugstore/grocery skincare. Nonetheless, there's at least makeup and the box recoups it's value over threefold so I don't really feel bad about it. I just wish it were a bit more exciting.
